This 5 Days Serengeti River Crossing Migration Safari is tailored to offer tourists a chance to witness the Great Migration also known as Wildebeest Migration, an annual migration of more than two million wildebeests and twenty thousand zebras and gazelles.

These animals embark on annual migration from Serengeti National Park in Tanzania towards the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya, the wildebeests embark on a journey, searching for better grazing and water. The wildebeest migration is a spectacular natural phenomenon and a must see wildlife experience for adventure enthusiasts.

On this safari, you will witness the Mara River Crossing at Mara River, the crossing is characterized by strong currents, giant crocodiles and predators like lions and cheetahs waiting to snatch any animal that jumps out of the water and prey on them. The River Crossing is usually a battle for survival and only the strong ones get to cross over to Masai Mara National Reserve.

Detailed itinerary of 5 Days Serengeti River Crossing Migration Safari

Day 01: Arusha - Serengeti National Park (North Kogatende)

On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport or after breakfast at your hotel, you shall be picked up by your driver-guide and transfer you to Arusha Airport for your domestic flight to Serengeti North Region. Upon landing, you will be welcomed by your guide and embark on a game drive to view the Great Migration.

Serengeti National Park is well known for its abundant resident wildlife particularly the “The Big Five” and the Great Wildebeest Migration.

Day 02: Serengeti National Park - North Mara

Wake up early for breakfast and head to the North Mara Region for a full day game drive, on morning and afternoon game drive you will be able to follow the Great Migration a Serengeti North / North Mara.

The Great Migration is resident in Wagakuria Area, the key feature in this region is the Mara River. It is not uncommon to see the herds cross the Mara River North on one day and then back south a few days later.

Please Note: To actually find a crossing is very difficult and is sometimes a matter of luck.

Day 03-04: Serengeti National Park (North Mara River)

Enjoy breakfast and head to Serengeti National Park for a full day of game drive following the Great Migration and the incredible Mara River Crossing.

River Crossings at Kogatende start to occur every day in August as the mega herd settles into the area. Game viewing is also superb with river crossings pretty much guaranteed every day. There is no distinct movement as the herds tend to cross back and forth over the river, following the rains and subsequent fresh grasses. It is not uncommon to see different herds crossing in different on the same day.

Day 05: Serengeti - Departure

After breakfast, head to the park for a morning game drive in the Serengeti North region. You will later be transferred to the airstrip for a drop off to the airport for your flight to Arusha. From here you will be picked up by your guide and be transfer to your hotel in Arusha or at Kilimanjaro International Airport for your international flight back home.
